Baggy suits are out just as much as showing a little ankle is in.
The slim fit men’s suit is readily available for slender gentlemen as well as anyone wanting to dress like someone out of a Wes Anderson film.
The trend of slim fit is riding the coattails of the skinny jeans and form-fitting shirts movement. Guys who want to wear skinny jeans no longer have to sacrifice their personal style for a fancier occasion.
The trick: slim goes with slim. Slim suit, slim tie, slim belt, slim guy.
Volcom has the Stone suit ‘08, a slim fit suit available in black and charcoal stripe. The Stone suit is available online for approximately $200 or, for the closest store, take a trip to San Diego.
Paul Smith has introduced the slim, two button suit for his winter 2008 collections. The suit has notch and peak lapels and comes with slim fitting shirts.
The closest Paul Smith store is in Los Angeles.
Bloomingdale’s is offering the Hickey men’s slim fit mohair wool suit from their Beatles Collection. Bloomingdale’s Web site describes it as a “handsome grey mohair suit with black velvet top collar that you can wear to countless events.”
The suit will run shoppers about $2,000, only comes in gray and is sold exclusively at Bloomingdales. One place a little bit closer to home is Insight Menswear in the basement of the Memorial Union.
Insight Menswear sells the Calvin Klein slim fit.
“It’s flat front pants,” Jamie Voelz of sales says. “And the pants fit really, really nice.” Voelz says the suit runs at about $289 and includes a shirt, tie and socks.
“It’s ordered to fit,” Voelz says.
