ASU finance senior Jazmin Medina, 21, was crowned the 38th annual Fiesta Bowl Queen Wednesday night at the Fairmont Scottsdale Resort.
The coronation represented the beginning of Medina’s reign over the Fiesta Bowl’s 2008-2009 Festival of College Football.
There are more than 40 events connected with the 38th annual Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and 20th Annual Insight Bowl.
Originally from Texas, Medina is a member of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting and is a mentor for the Be a Leader Foundation and Peer Advantage Success Program, according to a release issued by the Fiesta Bowl.
Medina, one of four finalists on the court, was selected partially based on her community involvement and scholastic achievements, according to the release.
Other criteria included poise, personality, interviews with several panels and KPNX, Channel 12, a public online vote and an essay submission.
The court also includes ASU journalism senior Haley Peterson, as well as two students from the UA.
The queen and court members will represent the Fiesta Bowl throughout the rest of the football season at the Fort McDowell Fiesta Bowl Parade, Insight Fiesta Bowl Block Party, Arizona Fiesta Bowl National Band Championship and the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl game in January.
The four will also represent the Fiesta Bowl as official spokeswomen during the event.
