ASU, Phoenix buses collide near Downtown campus

An ASU shuttle bus collided with a city bus Tuesday night near the Downtown Phoenix campus, causing significant damage to both vehicles, as it was departing to Tempe, police said.

The collision happened at about 7:20 p.m. at Fillmore and First streets near the Cronkite building.

Phoenix police Sgt. K. Harper was at the scene when the incident occurred but said the cause is unclear.

“It hit pretty hard. There was a good amount of power [in the collision],” he said.

No injuries were reported, but an estimated 20 to 25 students were aboard the ASU shuttle when it crashed, Harper said.

“I just remember looking up and seeing a bus coming at us,” said nursing junior Natalie Rowley, who was on the ASU bus when it crashed.

There were no passengers on the city bus, a DASH shuttle, at the time of the collision.
