Server failure affects connectivity on all four campuses

A server failure cut campus Internet access and kept off-campus users from accessing ASU Web sites for at least four hours Wednesday night.

James Kircher, a technical analyst at ASU’s help desk, said a primary server on the Tempe campus experienced a technical failure.

“They’re just trying to reboot it, but it’s a tricky process,” he said.

According to a recorded message on the help desk phone line, the problem occurred at about 7:10 p.m.

Outgoing Internet access was restored on the Tempe campus just before midnight.

Kircher said all four campuses were affected by the outage.

Biology sophomore Jeffrey Twum-Ampofo said he was in his room in University Towers on the Tempe campus when the outage started.

“I was playing a video game when it happened, and it really messed me up,” he said.

Finance senior Ian Louk, who also lives in University Towers, said the outage disrupted his daily check of his stocks.

“It really sucked because I have to know when to buy and sell,” he said.
