Why are you running for office/re-election?
I’m a proven leader willing to work hard on improving life in Arizona.
What experience qualifies you for the position?
Many life experiences have prepared me to understand the difficulties that many people go through. I worked my way through college with help from my parents. I grew up poor so I know what it is like to do without. I show respect to all people and give them opportunity to meet and speak at committee hearings. Leadership has placed me as committee chair because of my trustworthiness. I’ve chaired the Ethics Committee and serve on the Character Education Foundation. People trust me to follow through with what I say I will do. I served as chair of the Public Safety & Human Services Committee, and I’m well known for many of the DUI laws in Arizona, in which this past year there was a 15.8 percent reduction in DUI fatalities. I am the first legislator to serve on the National Safety Council Drug & Alcohol Committee.
What do you think is the most important issue of the election?
The budget and the economy is the most important issue facing our state.
If elected, what would you want your relationship with ASU to be?
I would like to be supportive of students striving for achievement.
Why should ASU students want to elect you?
I’ve been supportive in the past. The West campus became a four-year university because of Speaker Weiers and my support as a four-year university.
What is the No. 1 change you want to see in your district?
I would like to see less crime and a high quality, accessible education system.
What would your contributions to the community be?
I have been a role model and proven legislator, volunteer and contributor to our community for 25 years.
