The ASU football team opened up its Pac-10 season with a victory, defeating Stanford 41-17 on Saturday at Sun Devil Stadium.

Senior quarterback Rudy Carpenter led the No. 15 Sun Devils (2-0, 1-0), completing 27 of 36 passes for 345 yards and three touchdowns.

Carpenter picked up where he left off last week, as he threw for over 300 yards for the second consecutive week.

Sophomore wide receiver Kerry Taylor led the Sun Devils with five receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown.

Senior wide receiver Mike Jones had six receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown.

The Sun Devil offense sputtered in the red zone on its first two possessions, settling for two field goals from sophomore kicker Thomas Weber.

The scoring came in bunches after that, as the Sun Devils equaled their scoring total against the Cardinal a year ago.

Defensively, the Sun Devils were led by junior linebacker Gerald Munns, who recorded seven tackles and an interception.

Junior defensive end Dexter Davis had two sacks for ASU.
