Police Beat: Narcotics Bureau arrest seven men in marijuana ring


Tempe Police reported the following incidents Friday:

  • The Narcotics Bureau arrested seven men Thursday after investigators discovered a marijuana ring that sold and transported the drug to Michigan. The men range in age from 21 to 25 and were arrested at three different homes in Laveen, police reported.

    Police arrested two of the men near 35th and Southern avenues on suspicion of possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the police report.

    Four others were arrested 10 minutes later in the 6000 block of 46th Drive near Baseline Road. Police found marijuana in the men's rooms as well as on the kitchen table. All four were arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana, police reported.

    A final man was arrested a mile away on the 4000 block of Valencia Drive. Police said he shipped a package of marijuana to Michigan Tuesday. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sale and the transfer of marijuana, according to the police report.

  • Two Tempe men were arrested on the 800 block of South River Road near University Drive and state Route 101 on suspicion of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia Thursday night, police reported.

    Officers found individual portions of marijuana wrapped in clear plastic in the back seat of a brown 1984 Toyota Corolla, according to the police report.

    The driver, 21, and passenger, 22, both denied that it belonged to them, police reported.

    Both men were booked at Tempe Jail and released pending charges, according to the police report.

  • A 34-year-old Phoenix man was arrested at his home Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of three counts of burglary in Tempe, police reported.

    Police arrested the man in the 4000 block of East Jicarilla Street after matching witness and victim descriptions of him and his black 1993 Saturn coupe, according to the police report.

    Police reported that the man broke into two vehicles at a residential garage at Warner Road and Priest Drive, then continued to break into a car in a driveway in the same neighborhood.

    He attempted another burglary at McClintock Drive and Warner Road, but fled when the homeowner confronted him, police reported.

  • A 46-year-old Tempe man was arrested at the intersection of Siesta Lane and Fifth Street Thursday night on suspicion of possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia, police reported.

    Police stopped the man for suspicious behavior in the industrial area, which has a history of burglaries, according to the police report.

    He was booked in Tempe Jail and held on warrants and for violation of probation, police reported.
