'Warriors' is life soundtrack

Nothing brightens up a day more than an easily accessible hard-rock band, especially a band with a wicked name.

Secret Lives of the Freemasons is a post-hardcore band signed to Victory Records, an independent record label that has an impressive roster of groups, including Taking Back Sunday and Thursday.

Though "post-hardcore" can be a difficult genre to decipher, it basically boils down to melodic guitar with some punk influences, usually accompanied by powerful singing, and often peppered with screams. Generally, this holds true for Secret Lives of the Freemasons, though I would say the band has a slight "pop" feel to them. The sound is very clean and not as "dirty" or hectic as conventional punk rock.

Frontman Brien Worsham has a great voice and routinely reverberates from high to low notes, sounding very close to Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw and Head Automatica. Those who are not crazy about screaming can rest assured; it does not get in the way of the music, and it typically works well with the songs on the album.

The album "Weekend Warriors" is the third album from the group and has quickly become a new favorite. Starting off strong with the infectious party-anthem "Chug and Leave," the album never relents. Almost every song is upbeat and energetic, not to mention catchy. Do not be shocked when you find yourself raspy from singing along.

Songs like "Painting Monsters" and "The New Whack" are perfect for high-speed cruises down the 202, though honestly, the whole album is perfect for any activity.

"Weekend Warriors" by Secret Lives of the Freemasons is a great listen and should not be overlooked. If there were a single flaw to the album, it would be that it might feel a bit generic to some. However, do stock up on blank CDs because all your friends will want this album.
