ASU down to final chance at playoffs

The Sun Devils are closing out the regular season this weekend with two shots at earning a playoff berth.

Returning to Wells Fargo Arena, the ASU volleyball team (15-14, 7-9) will take on two more of the Pac-10's best when they face off against No. 10 UCLA on Friday night (19-9, 8-8) and No. 8 USC (23-4, 12-4) on Saturday night.

ASU will need to pull off at least one upset win this weekend to keep their record above .500 and their hopes alive for an at-large bid to the 2007 NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament in Sacramento.

The Sun Devils had two chances of relieving some pressure last weekend on the road, but went 0-2 against their northern California conference opponents, No. 4 Stanford and No. 6 Cal.

ASU's conference slate began with losses to the Trojans and Bruins on Sept. 20 and 21 respectively, coming off a five-game winning streak to close out non-conference play.
