Starbucks Showdown: Memorial Union vs. W.P. Carey School of Business


Starbucks options abound on campus - even the small coffee stands brew the giant's beans - but it can be hard to choose the best of the bunch. SPM readers scoff at the Palo Verde East and bookstore locations, instead favoring the W.P. Carey School's shop and the spot in the Memorial Union. But which location really reigns supreme?

If you'd rather not mingle with the business kids, the MU Starbucks is packed most of the day, so you need to devote some time to wait for your drink. The MU baristas argue that their 61 cents an hour tip wage is far superior to the cheapos at the Carey school, but they also go home hoarse from screaming at the throngs of frappuccino drinkers.

The Carey School's Starbucks is the MU's placid sibling, with its quick service and smaller crowds. Here, you'll find an abundance of guys in sport coats and ties, discussing how to make that marketing PowerPoint presentation a bit spiffier over tall lattes.
