Rainstorms drench campus

Students threw newspapers, textbooks and aprons over their heads - anything they could find to shield themselves from the rain pelting campus Thursday.

The scene playing out across ASU was a dramatic change from earlier this week when swimsuits and towels were the appropriate attire for summer-like temperatures.

"The rain is nice when you don't have to walk to class - when you can sit inside all day," said Kristen Hicks, an architecture freshman.

The National Weather Service issued flood warnings for parts of Arizona, including Maricopa County, but on campus students dealt only with an occasional puddle and downpours that seemed to turn on and off like a faucet.

"I bought an umbrella, but then it stopped raining," said political science senior Jasmine Hobeheidar.
