Parking structures take on new names

VERTIGO: A student climbs the long, twisting stairs that lead to the top of Parking Structure 7 Wednesday. Beginning next August, each of the parking structures around campus will be renamed according to their location.

ASU's parking structures will shed their numbers and take on names of the nearby streets and campus landmarks starting in August.

The Parking and Transit Services received confirmation from the University Building Naming Committee in January, allowing for the parking structures to change their names, said PTS spokeswoman Shereen Saurey.

"The names will reflect the recognized nearby landmarks on campus," Saurey said.

Parking Structure 1 will be renamed Apache Boulevard Parking Structure.

Structure 2 will be named Tyler Street Parking Structure; Structure 3, 10th Street Parking Structure; Structure 4, Rural Road Parking Structure; Structure 5, Stadium Parking Structure; Structure 6, University Towers Parking Structure and Structure 7, Packard Drive South Parking Structure.

The names were changed because of feedback from visitors to the University who felt it was difficult to locate the parking structures based solely on the numbers, Saurey said.

"It will be an adjustment for returning students, but a lot of the incoming students will never notice any difference," she said.

Parking decals for next year will reflect the new structure names, but there will be no change for the parking lots, Saurey added.
