Golf: Slipping in Puerto Rico

The ASU men's golf team faltered during second-round play of the 2006 Puerto Rico Classic on Monday.

The Sun Devils slipped from fourth place into a tie for ninth with North Carolina State and Duke. Oklahoma State sits in first place after carding a tournament-best 16-under 272 for the second round.

ASU senior Alejandro Canizares won the individual title last year, but has fallen from sixth place to ninth. He sits at 2-under 142 heading into tomorrow's final round of competition, seven strokes behind first-place OSU sophomore Pablo Martin.

Lenny Park entered the second round of play in a first-place tie after he shot a 4-under 68 to open the tournament Sunday. But he ran into problems Monday and plummeted into a tie for 34th with teammate Benjamin Alvarado Holley. After 36 holes both sit at 2-over 146.

Junior Niklas Lemke and freshman Ryan Kelley round out ASU's lineup in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Lemke is currently carding a 7-over 151, good for 64th, while Kelley sits in 81st after shooting 12-over 156.
