Devil Dish: Bettis and retirement

After grasping the shining silver Lombardi Trophy for the first time and thanking the cities of Pittsburgh and Detroit for everything, future Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis stated that "the bus stops in Detroit."

Bettis will be going out a champion after a tremendous NFL career that lacked only one thing until Sunday: a Super Bowl ring.

What a complete about face from only three weeks ago, where a goal line fumble could've led to an early playoff exit for the Steelers.

I doubt Bettis would've been so quick to pull the retirement trigger had Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger not been able to make a game saving tackle on Colts cornerback Nick Harper.

But, with Colts kicker Mike Vanderjagt's 46-yard field goal going wide right, the Bus was back on the road to Super Bowl XL to be crowned champion in his hometown.
