As much as we wish that everyone at ASU were happy with the costs of attendance, we know it isn't true.
With President Crow announcing another tuition increase this year of no more than 10 percent, we will all wail and groan about how much more of our recreation money is going to our fine education.
But no one is more depressed about the tuition hike than those who pay out-of-state costs.
They pay $15,000 for undergraduate fees vs. the $4,301 that those who qualify as in-state pay.
Many of them, like Roy Ham, are trying to get their tuition status changed; all they want is to be called a resident of Arizona.
And who can blame them? There are some great advantages to living here.
For example, Arizonians have the ability to wear a sweatshirt and flip-flops when it's 70 degrees out, making it well worth the move.
If you're an AZ resident, you are also able to take your out- of-state friends to all the cool spots in Tempe and other cities like Prescott and Sedona.
You are able to see the Grand Canyon more than once in your lifetime.
And you may even pick up a little Spanish, not to mention that you can get a burrito anywhere in town at 4 o'clock in the morning.
Oh, and the easy access to Mexico with its cheap everything makes life in Arizona, well, nice.
But best of all is paying a lot less for school.
However, if you're an Arizona native, you also know the disadvantages of being in Arizona year round.
You don't get to fly home for the summer, since home is here. And here, you smell it. Everyone is sticky and stinky from May to August, creating unattractive scenery, sometimes with too little clothing.
We applaud anyone trying to get in-state tuition, but if you can't, then just remember all those wonderful things back home that you just don't have here in Arizona.
You southerners have sweet tea, grits and okra. C'aint fine that hur!
You Texans are so proud of your big state that you think you could be your own nation. And back home, you don't get weird looks from a bartender when you ask for a Budweiser Select.
Californians have an ocean and therefore get to learn how to surf.
Those from the Midwest can wave at everyone and get waved back at, without the middle finger or a crazy look.
And for those from the East Coast, Dunkin Donuts is your coffee place.
Not to mention the valley cities miss out on seasonal changes, grass and regional accents.
So if you just don't get to call yourself an Arizona resident, then go out, meet people from your home state and embrace your own cultural oddities.
