Sex and fame have always gone hand in hand. You know you've really made it when you have thousands of women (or men) around the world wanting to get in your pants.
Celebrity sex icons have created an image of sex that we mere mortals could only envy. Stars' sex lives have always fascinated the public, who has lapped up all the dirty little secrets that slip into the pages of gossip magazines.
But it seems like over the course of the past few years, celebrities have gone overboard with the exposition of their sexuality. What used to be left to naughty stipulation is now being flaunted in our faces, whether we ask for it or not. And instead of fueling curiosity, it leads to disillusionment.
Learning that Justin took Britney's V-card was already a little too much information. But in retrospect, that was only the tip of the iceberg (insert Freudian pun here). Sure, celebrities have done crazy stuff before, but it seems like our generation of entertainers is determined to reach new levels of sleaziness.
Snoop Dogg and Lil' John, both kings of rap and hip-hop, decided to use their talents and expand their creative horizons by producing and starring in their own porn films.
The two performers have separated themselves from other hip-hop royalty like Sean "Diddy" Combs by getting involved in projects that make their suggestive music videos look mild.
But such projects may draw the criticism of using celebrity status for self-gratification. Rapper 50 Cent, the star of "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," will have none of it. In a recent interview, he revealed his intention to use his body to please his female fans. "I need to make a 50 Cent condom, and a motorized version of me. A motorized version of me will definitely have to be waterproof, so you could utilize it in the tub," Fitty told GQ magazine.
The instrument will likely be blue, the mogul's favorite color. But being the considerate man he is, 50 Cent is also taking men into account as he plans his new pet project. One of the concerns he expressed is the size of the vibrator. Musing, he told the magazine that, "I don't know if big is better because I'm not sure a man wants his woman playing with a really big dildo." But that's OK. All you really need is a lil' bit, right?
G-Unit may soon be the G-spot for sex fantasy material. 50 Cent's partner in crime, Lloyd Banks, is capitalizing on his own sex fantasies. In a double DVD titled "Groupie Luv," already available for purchase, the viewer is able to "interact" with common sluts.
The scenes take place in various settings, including a Hummer limo and a recording studio. "It will seem like you will be the one having sex," Banks has said of his award-winning film.
By now, you're either disgusted or typing in your credit card number. Either way, it is undisputable that the relationship between fame and sex is evolving at a rapid pace.
Before, sex was used to sell music, now music sells sex. While it may seem exciting to some, in the long run it will prove counterproductive. Maybe I lack the imagination for this type of thing. But after such antics, what is there left to do?
Mystery is one of the components that makes sex so appealing. Exposing all there is to expose for the world to see, insert or interact with, is not sexy at all.
