Volleyball: Donahue breaks school digs mark

The ASU volleyball team closed out its season on the road with a split against the Oregon schools on Saturday.

ASU sophomore Sydney Donahue tallied 33 digs in a 30-26, 30-26, 32-34 and 30-27 victory over Oregon to break the school single-season digs record. She finished the year with 628 digs, shattering the previous mark of 601, which was set in 1990.

Donahue has now registered double-digits in digs in 40 of her 43 career matches.

The Sun Devils (8-20, 3-15) defeated Oregon for the 16th straight time. Junior outside hitter Nicole Morton recorded a double-double with a match-high 22 kills and added 10 digs. Senior setter Giovana Melo had 63 assists in the final match of her career.

ASU won a tight first set that featured 12 ties and six lead changes. The Sun Devils were in control of the second game before dropping the third in extra points.

ASU edged the Ducks in the fourth set to close out the season on a high note.

The Sun Devils fell to Oregon State in straight sets 30-27, 30-27 and 30-26 on Friday. ASU was plagued by 14 service errors on the night. Morton led the team with 15 kills, and sophomore outside hitter Kristin Trayser added 11.

The Sun Devils never led in the third game as Oregon State completed the season sweep of ASU.
