ASU police reported the following incidents Monday:
A 17-year-old female ASU student reported to police late Saturday night she had been receiving harassing phone calls for more than three weeks. "[She] has asked [the caller] to stop calling her, but he refuses and says that he knows where she lives," police reported. The woman reportedly knows the caller's first name but said the phone calls came from different numbers.
A 29-year-old Phoenix man was arrested at Hayden Library late Friday night and charged with trespassing. The man, who had reportedly been warned not to return to campus twice in the past year, was allegedly found sleeping on the second floor of the library. "[He] was awakened and claimed he was reading from the Bible," police reported. "It should be noted that no reading material was found on or around [him]."
A female ASU student was reportedly shot by a paintball gun Friday night on the north side of The Towers, 525 S. Forest Ave. The woman was hit in the abdomen and head but was not injured and did not want medical attention, police reported. "There were several busted and not busted paint balls on the sidewalk," police reported. "The angle of the splatter suggests the shots came from the apartments." Towers residents interviewed by police reportedly said they knew someone was shooting the paintballs but did not know the identity of the shooter or shooters.
Tempe police reported the following incidents Monday:
A 45-year-old male ASU employee was arrested on the 2400 block of East Hermosa Drive late Saturday night and charged with child abuse. Police alleged the man slapped his 3-year-old son's face, leaving bruises, and tugged on his son's ear. The man reportedly told police he lost control while dealing with his son's behavior. "I should not have hit him that hard," the man reportedly said. An emergency order of protection was issued at the scene because of the nature of the incident and concern from the victim's mother, police reported.
A 46-year-old homeless man was arrested on the 900 block of East Vista del Cerro Drive Friday night and charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and four other criminal charges. "[He] poured vodka on his girlfriend ... and threatened to light her on fire, while holding a Bic lighter in his hand," police reported.
