UCLA
Down 40-28 in the fourth quarter, a fake punt conversion sparked UCLA (5-0, 2-0) to a 47-40 win over California (5-1, 2-1) in the battle of unbeaten teams Saturday.
With the ball on their own 42-yard line, the Bruins faced a fourth-and-2, and coach Karl Dorrell sent his punt team out to a chorus of boos from the Rose Bowl crowd. However, Jarrad Page ran for 38 yards on the fake to pick up a first down, and senior quarterback Drew Olson later scored on a 1-yard sneak to bring the team within five points.
Olson, who was 17-33 for 225 yards and two touchdown passes, led UCLA on its second consecutive game-winning touchdown drive with less than two minutes remaining, tossing a 28-yard swing pass to running back Maurice Drew for the go-ahead score.
UCLA sealed the game when Trey Brown intercepted California quarterback Joe Ayoob with 1:19 left and Drew scored as time expired.
Drew scored five touchdowns in the game, three on the ground, one receiving and an 81-yard punt return in the third quarter to continue his great season thus far.
"He's a very good football player," Dorrell said. "I know he has a lot of capabilities, and he's a guy that's a big play performer. He does great things with the ball in his hands."
California continued its strong running game, as Justin Forsett ran for 153 yards and a touchdown while Marshawn Lynch rushed for 135 yards with a score.
The Golden Bears also got a big game from true freshman wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who caught 10 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown.
USC
Running back Reggie Bush may be the Heisman candidate, but fellow junior LenDale White has been the leading rusher for No. 1 USC (5-0, 3-0) the past two weeks.
White ran for 179 yards and four touchdowns in the Trojans' 42-21 victory over UA (1-4, 0-2) Saturday. That big game came after he rushed for 197 yards and two touchdowns in USC's comeback win over ASU.
It was the third straight 100-yard rushing game for White and the fourth consecutive game of two or more touchdowns on the ground. It also made him the team's leading rusher this season with 616 yards on 81 carries and 10 touchdowns.
White may have to play an even bigger role this weekend at Notre Dame, as Bush suffered a knee sprain against Arizona and could be somewhat limited against the Irish.
Stanford
Quarterback Trent Edwards threw for three touchdowns and ran for 92 yards to lead Stanford (2-2, 1-1) to a 24-21 victory over Washington State (3-2, 0-2) Saturday.
"I thought he had a real good game," coach Walt Harris said. "He did some things for us in running the offense, executing the passing game and being elusive in the pocket, helping us protect him by being able to move around and also breaking out and making some plus yards."
Edwards was 19-28 for 257 yards with two scoring passes to Mark Bradford and another to Justin McCullum, as the Cardinal gave Harris his first Pac-10 win.
Washington State quarterback Alex Brink threw for just 161 yards a week after breaking the Cougars' single-game school record with 531 yards in their loss to Oregon State.
The Cougars were without leading receiver Jason Hill and starting middle linebacker and leading tackler Will Derting, who both missed the game with injuries.
