Body discovered in apartment complex

A woman was found dead in the parking lot of a Tempe apartment complex early Thursday morning, an incident police are considering a homicide.

Police responded to the Saddle Club Apartments, 3730 S. Mill Ave., at approximately 1 a.m. after a resident called and reported finding a body, said Tempe Sgt. Dan Masters.

Officers reportedly found a white female in her 20s lying in a large pool of blood.

"There was obvious trauma to her head," Masters said.

Detectives went door to door at the apartment complex Thursday in search of witnesses. Masters said identifying the victim is "our number one priority."

As of late Thursday afternoon, the victim had not been identified, but police believe she may have been a resident of the complex.
