The ASU women's golf team maintained its second-place position through the second day of tournament play in the Topy Cup, being held in Fukushima, Japan.
The Sun Devils turned in a 23-over-par 311 for the day and managed to overtake Washington as the Huskies slipped into third place.
Tohoku Fukushi, one of the three Japanese teams competing, climbed two spots to take the lead at 27-over 603 after 36 holes. ASU sits eight strokes back from first place, going into the final day of play.
Senior Alissa Kuczka followed up her near-career low round with a 4-over 76 Wednesday, bringing her two-day total to a 3-over 147. Kuczka is in a tie for third, five strokes behind the leader with one round left to play.
Tohoku Fukushi's M. Saiki sits atop the leader board after turning in a second-round low 2-under 70. Saiki has a four-stroke lead over her nearest competition.
ASU junior Tiffany Tavee jumped from 11th into a two-way tie for eighth. Tavee made the leap despite a 5-over 77 effort on the day, which was three strokes beyond her first day finish.
Sophomore Brooke Todare climbed four spots to finish 16th, holding steady by turning in her second 6-over 78.
Junior Charmaine Erasmus and freshman Jennifer Osborn are both tied for 25th after finishing 36 holes with a 17-over 161.
The third and final day of tournament play is Thursday.
