ASU students won't be able to buy parking decals from the comfort of their homes in the foreseeable future.
ASU Parking and Transit Services officials announced Thursday that the department's online parking services will be "temporarily unavailable" due to technical problems on their Web site.
Problems in PTS' online system first became apparent on July 1, when the department began selling decals for the 2005-2006 academic year, said Mark Krug, a PTS information specialist. He said when customers tried to purchase parking permits they didn't receive confirmation that their payments had been received or just got error messages.
A number of individuals thought they had made a mistake and clicked on the Back button in their Internet browsers to submit payment again, Krug said. This caused their debit or credit cards to be charged multiple times for the same operation.
Krug said PTS has been manually reviewing every transaction that took place during the time the site wasn't functioning correctly and attempting to inform every customer whose accounts were incorrectly charged.
"We are also getting in touch with credit card companies and banks to make sure that the errors are corrected," he said.
Undeclared sophomore Caitlin Gizler said it was "inconvenient" and "annoying" that the online services were no longer available.
"It should be available for us to use online like they advertised it to and it would make it easier than having to come down here and try to do it," she said.
