Letters to the Editor: Student reaction to controversial MU preachers

Memorial Union demonstrators offensive

I am absolutely astounded at some of what ASU allows to go on in front of the Memorial Union.

In particular, last Thursday I encountered two men holding huge signs listing groups of people that make them "sick" (including homosexuals, 'baby killers,' Mormons and many others), all the while ranting at the top of their lungs.

It is one thing to hand out information that I can choose whether to take and read, but a full out assault on the senses seems to cross a line of decency.

Personally, I was extremely offended by these men and can only imagine how many others were also. I simply cannot understand why ASU would allow such toxic hatred to be blasted at its students right in the heart of the campus.

Cisneros editorial argued

The premise that Rosie Cisneros uses in her argument against SB 1306 is slanted and promotes fear within the community.

She fails to address the spirit of the bill and [writes] as if the police will stop enforcing their normal duties in order to kick in doors and deport everyone they can.

What she fails to state is we have people (citizens) who have the same exact fear of the police that she states illegal aliens have.

They are simply other criminals: They just happen to be legal citizens.

I have yet to see an article demanding that they be protected from arrest if they witness a crime or fall victim to one.

Taking account of Berger column

Stephanie Berger says the appeal of iPods lies in the image? This is impossible.

I've gone through three and a half iPods, and I'm still not popular. Even when I wear my Radiohead and Mars Volta T-shirts and exclaim loudly to my classmates that I don't think my iPod is waterproof even when I'm playing Air Supply, no one tells me I'm cool.

I just don't think they understand the music I consume defines me and makes me the person I am today.

Did you know iPods are not only convenient but also fun? Maybe the most fun you can have with your clothes on. And everyone likes fun.

Except that old meany [ASU President] Michael Crow. He likes meal plans. And meal plans aren't very fun. Unless you're a glutton. And that's a sin.
