Review: 'Sin City' contains many virtues

Violence, sex and action help bring Frank Miller's comic book "Sin City" to the big screen -- with the help of a few friends.

Frank Miller teams up with Robert Rodriguez, an experienced director working on films such as "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" and the "Spy Kid" series.

To stay true to the comic book nature of the story, "Sin City" was filmed to appear as the comic book did, using mostly black and white with some color to emphasize the characters' attributes.

This was not the only perk of the film -- the cast was made up of some of the hottest stars in Hollywood. From Bruce Willis to Jessica Alba to Elijah Wood, the list just keeps going and creates a worthy cast for an outstanding movie.

Sin City is held together by a truce. "Old Town" is the low-life part of the city governed by prostitutes. Police run the law-abiding area. Cop John Hartigan (Willis) just wants to finish his last day on the force before retiring, but has some business to attend to first ... fighting against the crooked cops (and the politicians who pay off the cops).

After getting a quick sketch of Hartigan's story, "Sin City" jumps to Marv (Mickey Rourke), a criminal on parole with a big heart for prostitutes and destruction. With a rough look and attitude to match, Marv's exterior is tough, but he only wants a little love. But when the only prostitute to show him a good time ends up dead, he's out for revenge.

When the prostitutes kill an important player in this sinful game, a war breaks out in the city and a lot of bloodshed ensues.

Although each character has a story of their own, all of the stories are incorporated and help to tie up loose ends.

Not only were the characters and acting incredible, the comic book-style presentation made the film.

I give "Sin City" 4 pitchforks out of 5.
