Police Beat: Thirsty thieves get Naked

ASU police reported the following incident Thursday:

An unknown suspect or suspects burglarized The Forest Mall Cafe at 1011 S. Forest Mall Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, the manager told police. The estimated total loss was $147. Stolen items reportedly included three one-pound bags of coffee beans, three coffee mugs, 18 cans of mints, nine packs of gum and 50 16-ounce bottles of Naked Juice. The manager allegedly believes the suspect(s) gained entry through removable panels on the west side of the building. Police reports said one of the panels was found ajar by restaurant staff. Police did not attempt to remove prints from the scene as many customers had been served prior to their arrival.

Tempe police reported the following incidents Thursday:

A 25-year-old transient man was arrested early Thursday morning at 501 S. Mill Ave. and charged with disorderly conduct and criminal littering. According to police reports, the man allegedly started a verbal argument with a subject and then walked down Mill Avenue screaming for several hours. After complaints from the subject, the man was contacted by police and told to stop shouting, to which he reportedly refused. He then allegedly turned away from officers, threw his cigarette on the ground and walked away. Officers took the suspect into custody after a short pursuit. The man was released on parole by the Department of Corrections Wednesday.

A 28-year-old Mesa man was arrested at 600 S. Dobson Road Wednesday morning and charged with assault. The suspect allegedly assaulted his sister earlier that morning at the 1800 block of East Guadalupe Road in Tempe. According to police reports, the suspect was taking his sister to work in Tempe when they got lost. He reportedly wanted her to get out of the car but she refused as she had paid him gas money for the week. The suspect allegedly stopped in the street and reached across her to open the car door. Police said he then used his hands and feet to push her out of the car. He reportedly left the area. His sister called police, who arrested him later that day.
