Police Beat: God exists, and he's been booked into 4th Avenue jail

ASU police reported the following incidents Wednesday:

A 28-year-old transient man was arrested at the Cholla Apartments on Monday night on charges of trespassing and loitering. Police contacted the man, who was reportedly sleeping on the west side of Cholla's E-wing, and asked for identification. The suspect reportedly identified himself as "God," but police reported, "He did not have a Social Security Number (SSN), state-issued ID card, birth certificate, parents, family or any item with his name on it." The man reportedly told police he was resting and had entered the gated complex through an unlocked door. Police reported that the gate through which the man said he entered had a "no trespassing" sign on it. The man "continued refusing to provide his identity, claiming he was God, police reported, and "used profanities when bystanders were present and was told several times to keep his language under control. "After the man was arrested and transported to the ASU police station, he reportedly told police his name and said it was his grandson's name. Police reportedly "asked ... how he had a grandson, since he was only 28 years old." The man reportedly said his grandson "doesn't exist in this realm" and "sometimes" is in the same body as himself. Dispatch reportedly checked the given name and discovered two Mesa warrants. Photographs provided by Mesa police reportedly matched the suspect, and he was also allegedly warned for trespassing and loitering at the Memorial Union in October. The man was booked into the 4th Avenue jail.

A 24-year-old Chandler man was arrested at Manzanita Hall on Tuesday night on charges of disorderly conduct. "He had been drinking and came to ASU to find his wife," he reportedly told police. When police arrived, the man was reportedly "very upset" and yelling profanities at his wife and an officer. Witnesses reportedly saw the couple engaged in various types of physical contact, including pushing, slapping and kicking. The husband and wife both denied any physical contact. Two of the witnesses, female residents of Manzanita Hall, reportedly "heard someone yelling outside" while watching "Sex and the City." "Nothing usually interrupts [one of the residents] while she watches that show," police reported. "But the yelling did [interrupt her]."

Two model-year 1992 pick-up trucks, a Ford F-250 and a Chevrolet K1500 were reported stolen from Lot 59 North on Tuesday. Police reported both cases were pending additional suspects or leads.

Tempe police reported the following incidents Wednesday:

A 25-year-old transient man was arrested on the 1200 block of East Apache Boulevard on Tuesday evening. The man reportedly had an outstanding warrant from Pima County regarding a stolen vehicle. At the time of the arrest, the man was reportedly in possession of a 2000 Honda Civic reported stolen from a Tucson dealership. The suspect "admitted to taking the vehicle during the test drive," police said. A search incident to the arrest reportedly revealed the man was in possession of methamphetamine, and he was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

A 52-year-old Tempe man was arrested on the 200 block of South Mill Avenue on Tuesday morning on charges of threatening and intimidating. The man allegedly threatened to kill a parking enforcement officer because he had received a ticket, and then followed the parking unit. "The victim stated he felt threatened and was in fear for his physical safety," police reported.
