ASU police reported the following incidents Monday:
A 20-year-old Tempe man was arrested at his residence on the 900 block of South Terrace Road on Sunday morning on charges of disorderly conduct with a weapon. The man allegedly pointed what appeared to be an automatic weapon at two men on Tyler Mall near Noble Library and pulled the trigger several times. One of the alleged victims contacted ASU police and told police "he believed the gun was empty, but thought the shooter may load the weapon and shoot him or others." The suspect reportedly had no weapons on his person when police first contacted him, but police allegedly found a "grey and black toy automatic weapon" in a trashcan along the path the suspect took.
A 19-year-old male ASU student was arrested near his room in Sonora Hall early Sunday morning and charged with underage possession of alcohol. Police arrived at the room after a resident assistant reportedly told police she heard someone in the room say, "I'm going to kill you." "I knocked on the door and heard someone say, 'It's the cops,' " an officer reported. "I then heard glass bottles clanking together."
The suspect reportedly allowed police to search a refrigerator in the room, where an officer allegedly found two unopened bottles of Dos Equis beer. Police also saw "several empty Dos Equis bottles under [the suspect's] bed" and reported the man "had bloodshot, watery eyes and had a moderate odor of alcohol coming from his person." After he was arrested, the suspect reportedly told police, "There's a lot of people more drunk than me out there."
An unknown suspect or suspects reportedly stole a Dell laptop computer at about noon Friday from a construction trailer on the 500 block of Orange Street. Police believe a white male in his early 20s, who is from 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall with short black hair may have stolen the laptop, valued at $4,000. The laptop had reportedly been left on top of a desk in the trailer during a lunch break. University spokesman Manny Romero said the incident "may be related" to the theft of Hitachi projector from the G-wing of the Engineering Center that reportedly occurred in February but was reported to police Friday.
A 19-year-old ASU student was allegedly assaulted at the Sigma Chi house, 606 Alpha Drive, early Friday morning. Police responding to a hit-and-run accident in the area stopped the victim but determined he was not involved in the accident. Police reported the victim "was bleeding from [his] face and had blood all over his shirt." The victim reportedly told police he was slammed to the ground by a pledge for the fraternity of which he is a member in front of the Sigma Chi house, but he refused to give police the suspect's name and reportedly did not want to aid in prosecution.
An 18-year-old ASU student was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and threatening and intimidating early Friday morning at the Sigma Pi house, 609 Alpha Drive. The suspect reportedly entered the fraternity house and provoked the alleged victim and other fraternity members to fight. The suspect reportedly "smacked [the victim's] cell phone out of his hand" while the victim called police and swung a knife at the victim and other fraternity members. The suspect reportedly attempted to flee and disregarded requests to stop when police arrived, so officers "tased [him] in the back, causing him to stop." An unknown suspect or suspects reportedly burglarized and damaged four candy machines in Matthews Center at some time Friday. Upon arrival, police reportedly noticed one of the east doors was not closed, "allowing anyone access to the building." A fire exit door on the west side of the building was also reportedly propped open. Police also reported, "We found numerous open interior office doors that left thousands of dollars of equipment unsecure [sic]." Police believe the suspect or suspects stole coins from the candy machines, but officers did not find any fingerprints on the machines "because the subject sprayed them with the fire extinguisher."
