BOO to the last week before spring break. A week of freedom is so close we can taste the Corona. But what should be a joyful countdown is instead many days of tapping our foot. We haven't been this teased or upset since the Lingerie Bowl.
BRAVO to Girl Scout cookies. It doesn't matter what your favorite flavor is, you can't help but buy a box. Here's a thought: Maybe ASU should start commissioning the Girl Scouts to raise money. Keep the cookie stand open all year and none of us would have to pay tuition.
BRAVO to Dennnis Skolnick, aka the Mill Avenue food critic, for his plans to run for Tempe City Council next year. The eccentric fellow has decided to make his campaign platform serving students, and we're all for it.
BOO to the men's basketball, baseball and football teams for coming up short on an NCAA academics report. ASU has a hard enough time attracting top recruits without the bad press. We would like to point out, however, that the Sun Devils are better off than other lower institutions (read: UA).
BRAVO to women. The women's athletic teams are cleaning up on the field/court and acing tests in the classroom. ASU also hosted a prominent woman scientist this week and the first female astronaut. Keep it up ladies.
BRAVO to pro bono legal work. College of Law students are doing a great service by helping out the needy. ASU is also doing a great service to students by teaching them the importance of helping those who need it most.
BOO to the U.S. soldier death toll in Iraq climbing to more than 1,500. We hope the violence ends as soon as possible and the troops can come home.
BRAVO to Ike Diogu and Jason Braxton for standing up for head coach Rob Evans. Say what you will about Evans, but these two players have proven their character by putting their coach before their own personal success. You can't teach that.
BOO to midterms. We know it's pointless to whine about exams and school, but for some seniors it's our last chance to complain. Then again, if we don't start studying soon, we'll have a chance to whine next semester.
BOO to scrapping tuition waivers in favor of handing out cash to students. It's not that we don't love cash, it's that we highly doubt this will accomplish much. Besides, the money, which won't expand to cover rising tuition, is more likely to end up at the bars than at the bookstore.
