Weekend Guide: Get your last-ditch football fix

With the Super Bowl and FBR Open last week and Daytona next Sunday; the weekend is kind of slow. Here are some things to check out.

What to watch

North Carolina at Connecticut, men's college basketball: Saturday, 11 a.m. (CBS).

Hot off their win over Duke on the road, the Tar Heels pack their bags and head to Storrs to meet the Huskies. North Carolina won last year 86-83, but UConn is always tough, especially at home where they have only lost five times the past three years. In comparison, the ASU men's team lost eight times at home last year.

NFL Pro Bowl, professional football: Sunday, 5:30 p.m. (ESPN). Can't get enough football? Here's your last fix until Draft Day. It may barely resemble football, but at least there is a ball and pads and corny endzone dances.

What to attend

Seattle Sonics (+9) at Phoenix Suns, professional basketball: Today, 7 p.m., America West Arena.

When these two teams met in December, Phoenix won a nail biter, 112-110. Already one of the toughest tickets in town, this is a potential Western Conference Finals matchup.

Portland State at ASU, college wrestling: Sunday, 2 p.m., Wells Fargo Arena.

While Triple H or Ric Flair probably won't be there, this is the best wrestling your student ID will buy you. The Sun Devils will look to continue their perfect run through the Pac-10 against lowly Portland State. If you feel like taunting the Vikings fans, ask them about their one win this year. Or the 14 losses. Whatever.

What to do

Rugby Practice, Think you're a tough guy (or girl)? Check out the Phoenix Storm, a local rugby club. They practice every Saturday at the Steele Indian School Park in Phoenix at 9 a.m. Maybe they'll even let you get into a scrum or two.

Ron White, On Saturday, you'll have two chances to catch Ron White, one of the comedians featured on the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, at the Dodge Theatre. Did you know White was on Letterman in 2002 and starred in a pilot on Fox called "Senor White"? Didn't think so. Check out www.tatersalad.com.
