Police Beat: Civilian breaks officer's leg

Tempe police reported the following incidents Thursday:

A 37-year-old Scottsdale man was arrested Wednesday night after the presidential debate and charged with failing to comply with an officer and disorderly conduct near the intersection of Scottsdale Road and the Loop 202. Tempe police said the man verbally harassed civilian traffic control officers who were enforcing a temporary closure of the Mill Avenue bridge as the presidential motorcade was passing over it on the Loop 202. According to police, the man then allegedly passed some officers on his bicycle, and collided with one officer, breaking the officer's leg. Police said the man then fled the scene on foot and was later apprehended.

A 29-year-old Phoenix man was arrested Wednesday and charged with assault near the 400 block of East Tyler Mall on the ASU campus. Police said the man allegedly pushed another man in the face. The suspect reportedly was angry with the victim over comments the victim made to an unidentified woman.
