Police Beat: Admittedly stupid student with beer


empe police reported the following incidents Tuesday.

A 17-year-old Tempe man was arrested Monday on charges of vehicle theft near the intersection of Broadway Road and 52nd Street. Police said the suspect was driving behind other cars at an unsafe distance when officers attempted to make a routine traffic stop. The suspect then allegedly moved into an open lane and moved through the intersection against a red light, colliding with a car traveling northbound. The suspect was then apprehended after a brief foot chase. Police said the suspect was driving a Saturn that had recently been stolen but had not been reported stolen.

A 36-year-old Guadalupe man was arrested Monday at Kiwanis Park located near the 100 block of West Baseline Road and charged with public sexual indecency. Police said the man allegedly was observed on his back on the grass near the south end of a lake masturbating with his right hand.

ASU police reported the following incidents Tuesday.

An 18-year-old ASU student was arrested Friday at Palo Verde East and charged with being in possession of alcohol while underage. Officers said the student allegedly left a bag containing six cans of Coors Light outside the entrance of the building. When police entered the dorm, they reportedly heard the suspect say, "The police are here and have my bag with my beer in it." When asked if the beer was his, the suspect reportedly said, "Yes I'm so stupid."
