Fox Sports Net Arizona named theater senior Ben Kennedy the "Sun Devil Insider" campus correspondent on Wednesday. Kennedy is the second ASU student to hold the job, taking over for last year's inaugural selection, Darnell Calhoun.
Kennedy's primary responsibility will be to report for the "Sun Devil Insider" on various ASU sporting events from a student's perspective. He said he intends not only to add to the already heavy media coverage of sports such as football and basketball, but also to highlight less recognized programs.
"I really want to get out there and talk to soccer players, softball players, wrestlers, track and field athletes and such," he said. "It's going to be a lot of fun putting the spotlight on some of the less major programs."
Kennedy, who beat out 63 other students for the reporting job, made his FSN Arizona debut Wednesday evening on the "Arizona Sports Report." He will begin shooting segments on campus shortly.
"I'm really excited and ready to get started," he said. "I have so many ideas running through my head, and I can't wait to see them materialize."
Kennedy added the selection has already made an impact on his post-college plans.
"I got to go to the taping today, and everyone is so friendly and professional it really makes me consider entering broadcast journalism," he said. "For now though, I'm just going to try and bring a little bit of fun and my knowledge of ASU sports to the camera for everyone to enjoy."
