So far this NFL season, much attention has been put forth toward honoring the memory of the late Pat Tillman. His initials and number grace the end zone at Sun Devil Stadium, his jersey will soon hang for all to see. The NFL even placed a badge of remembrance on each of its players' helmets last week.
But in the league's opinion, Tillman's week is up and players can now only pay homage to the Nike Swoosh. In the most blatant example of the NFL's corporate soul, officials have threatened to fine Denver quarterback and former Tillman teammate Jake Plummer $5,000 if he continues to display the sticker bearing the No. 40.
All I can say is that the NFL definitely has some gall to send the message that in a time of war and mourning, sponsorships are more important. If it knows what is good for its all-important image, it'll toss the sticker remover and let the Snake carry on.
