Briefs: Men's golf ties

Men's golf ties for third at Club Glove Intercollegiate: The ASU men's golf team played two solid rounds of golf, but was unable to end strong, as it finished in a tie for third at the Club Glove Intercollegiate in Somis, Calif.

After firing their best round of the tournament, 283 in the second round, the Sun Devils faltered and shot a team total 300 in the final round, finishing 12 strokes back of champion Pepperdine.

Pre-season All-American Alejandro Canizares was the bright spot for the Sun Devils, as he got back on track shooting a three-round total 216 (E), which included a second round 65 (-7), to finish in a tie for seventh.

Senior Jesse Mueller also shined for ASU, as he recorded a top 15 finish for the second week in a row, finishing in a tie for 13th with a three round total of 218 (+2).

Senior Pat Moore also finished in the top 20 for the Sun Devils with a tournament total 219 (+3), good enough for 18th place.

Colt Knost of Southern Methodist University finished as the tournament medalist, shooting a tournament total 212 (-4). Knost was one of only six players under par at the 6,858-yard par-72 Saticoy Country Club Golf Course.

The Sun Devils will take two weeks off before heading to their final fall tournament of the year in Brandon Dunes, Ore.

Men's basketball walk-on tryouts: The ASU men's basketball team will hold walk-on tryouts on Oct. 20 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena. Before attending tryouts, students must fill out forms located on the second floor of the Carson Student-Athlete Center in the compliance department lobby.
