Crow shuffles administration

ASU officials have hired a top administrator to run ASU's planned downtown campus.

ASU President Michael Crow appointed Mernoy Harrison, currently ASU's vice president of administration and finance, to become the future ASU Capital Center's provost, according to a statement released Thursday.

The existing downtown center's name change to ASU Capital Center is pending approval by the Arizona Board of Regents.

"Mernoy's blend of skills, record of accomplishment, and knowledge of both the University and the city make him ideally suited to lead a task of this magnitude, importance and complexity," Crow said in the statement.

Harrison's position change is only one of many personnel moves, each effective immediately. Harrison will not be directly replaced, the statement said. Instead, a national search is underway for the newly created position of Chief Financial Officer.

The CFO would handle University financial operations and take over Harrison's fiscal responsibilities. Until the search is completed, Harrison will continue to take care of ASU's financial duties.

Paul Ward, the current vice president and general counsel, will take on Harrison's administrative duties by becoming vice president of University Administration and general counsel.

The Budget Planning and Management Office and office of Institutional Analysis and Data Administration, also under Harrison's jurisdiction, will be consolidated into a single University-wide planning office, the statement said. Richard Stanley, senior vice president and University planner, will head this office.
