Two-time NCAA champion and ASU diver Joona Puhakka will compete in the 3-meter springboard semifinal after finishing 13th in the qualifying round Monday.
The junior, who is representing Finland, had an overall score of 414.69. Puhakka is the reigning NCAA Champion, and he finished second in the European Championships in the same event.
As a freshman, Puhakka won the NCAA 1-meter title. He went on to become the first male student-athlete in the history of the program to win two national championships in a career when he won the NCAA title on the 3-meter springboard as a sophomore.
D-Backs top Pirates: A day after being replaced in Arizona's lineup by a rookie, struggling Alex Cintron came through when the Diamondbacks needed him.
Cintron broke out of a 2-for-20 slump, going 2-for-5 and singling home the winning run in the ninth inning Monday night to give Arizona a 5-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
"It's a great feeling for me because I've been struggling all year,'' the shortstop said.
Fan photo fun day: ASU football fans will get the chance to take a photo with their favorite Sun Devil on Saturday at the annual ASU football fan photo day starting at 10 a.m. at Wells Fargo Arena. There will also be an autograph session from 10 a.m. to noon. Admission is free
The volleyball team will also be holding its Maroon and Gold scrimmage on the court at Wells Fargo Arena. This is also free.
