Football player arrested

ASU senior football player Connor Banks has been suspended indefinitely from the program after a drunk-driving arrest, said Mark Brand, media relations director for ASU.

Banks, a defensive tackle, was arrested in Scottsdale with a blood alcohol content of .27, over three times the legal Arizona limit of .08, said Detective Sam Bailey, spokesman for the Scottsdale Police Department.

About 1:30 a.m. on June 19, Scottsdale police received a call from an apartment complex at Indian School and Miller roads.

Banks, driving an SUV, was reportedly driving erratically and hit a low block wall trying to get into the complex. Leaving the complex, police followed him as he drove the wrong way down Miller Road and ran into a light pole on 75th Avenue, one block from Indian School. He got out of the vehicle and apparently tried to run, but fell into a bush, where he was arrested, Bailey said.

Banks has been charged with five offenses, including extreme DUI, hit-and-run and criminal damage.

Banks, from Richmond, Calif., spoke at former ASU and Arizona Cardinals star Pat Tillman's memorial service in April, as Banks wore "42," the same number worn by Tillman during his playing days at ASU.

In April, the team said Banks would continue to wear 42 this season. Brand added that even if Banks is allowed back on the team, he will wear number 58, and 42 will be retired as scheduled on Nov. 13.
