Face in the Crowd: Where have all the cowboys gone

As the college basketball regular season comes to an end, one question comes to mind-who is the player of the year?

There is no clear favorite as this year's most dominant player, just as there is no clear favorite to win the championship. So why isn't anyone dominating college basketball?

Consider the NBA players who could be in college this year. Besides LeBron and Carmelo, there are Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade and T.J. Ford. And that's just this year's rookies. Just think of how much star power actually could be in college basketball this season.

It has gotten to the point where any press generated toward a player means an early exit the NBA.

Take UA's Andre Iguodala. Earlier this season, he received little press and was considered the third-best player on that team. A season of consistent play and six double-doubles has pushed his stock into the draft lottery, according to ESPN.com.

Who are the stars this season? St. Joseph's Jameer Nelson has had a good season, but no one outside Philadelphia has seen him play. ASU's Ike Diogu us as consistent as they come, but the Devils are below .500.

But the story this season is not a particular player. It is two undefeated teams. It is Gonzaga cleaning house in the Northwest. It is home-court advantage in the ACC.

While no particular players have stolen the spotlight, there is no reason to worry. March Madness should be just as unpredictable as the regular season.
