Track and Field
In its second home meet of the season, the ASU track and field team won nine events and recorded 15 regional and Pac-10 qualifying marks at the Baldy Castillo Invitational on Saturday.
Sophomore Kandace Tucker won the sprint double, taking the 100m (11.79) and 200m dashes (23.72). Last season, Tucker was the second leg of the of the 4x400m relay at the NCAA Championships that earned her All-American honors.
Including Tucker's feat, the women won five events overall to go along with a pair of second-place finishes and one third-place finish.
Three men's teams won outright, and freshmen Brandon Glenn and Stephen Dolk tied in the pole vault.
The Sun Devils are back in action in three meets next week, starting with the heptathlon and decathlon athletes heading to Tucson on Tuesday and Wednesday for the Arizona Multi. The rest of the team will participate in either the ASU Invitational on Friday night at Sun Angel Stadium or the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif.
Women's NCAA Tourney at Wells Fargo
As expected, Stanford and Oklahoma will meet tonight at Wells Fargo Arena to decide who will move on to the Sweet Sixteen in the Women's NCAA Tournament.
The two teams last met at Stanford in 2003, with the Cardinal handing Oklahoma a 20-point defeat. The teams have never met on a neutral floor.
On Saturday, the Cardinal used a 17-point performance by senior Nicole Powell to roll past Missouri 68-44. The Phoenix-native added nine rebounds and seven assists, and will play her final game in the Phoenix area tonight before moving into the professional ranks.
Three other Stanford players reached double digits in scoring and head coach Tara VanDerveer recorded her 600th career win.
While Stanford used the performance of a senior, the Sooners needed the help of a freshman.
Leah Rush had a career-high 23 points, helping Oklahoma to a 58-45 victory over Marist. Rush tied her personal best for free throws made with her 9-for-9 performance.
The Sooners used a 14-0 run to start the second half that propelled the No. 3 seed in the Midwest Region to a 42-23 lead that they would never surrender.
The two teams meet at 8 p.m., in a game that will also be featured on ESPN2. The winner will move to the NCAA Midwest Regional in Norman, Okla., on March 28 and 30.
