Police Beat: Golf carts not safe on campus


Tempe police reported the following incidents Thursday:

A 24-year-old man was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault with a knife near the 700 block of South Ash Avenue. He allegedly was involved in a verbal argument with the victim, then drew a knife and cut the victim in the stomach. The wound was not life threatening.

A man was kidnapped near the 600 block of West First Street. Several ransom demands were made by telephone to the victim's girlfriend. The victim was later released in the area of 35th Avenue in Phoenix and called his girlfriend from a payphone. No suspects have been identified.

ASU police reported the following incidents Thursday:

Unknown suspect/s damaged a golf cart near the west side of Wells Fargo Arena. Total estimated damage is $800.

A vehicle was burglarized on the third level of Parking Structure 1. A Toshiba Palm Pilot worth approximately $306 was stolen.

Unknown suspect/s stole an electric system analyzer and two electric cart windshields from an ASU motor pool. Total estimated loss is $1,099.
