Police Beat: Crack up his sleeve, again


Tempe police reported the following incidents Sunday:

A 33-year-old Scottsdale man was arrested at an apartment complex near the 1600 block of West La Jolla Drive on charges of vehicle theft, attempted burglary from a vehicle, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of stolen property. Officers responded after apartment security reportedly witnessed the suspect going through a vehicle that was not his.

A 20-year-old Phoenix man was arrested near Baseline Road and Interstate 10 during a traffic stop on charges of providing false information to a police officer and carrying an unlicensed deadly weapon. The suspect reportedly was observed not wearing his seat belt and provided a false name at several points during the investigation. The officer also found an unlicensed handgun in the glove compartment, which the suspect reportedly admitted was his.

Tempe police reported the following incidents Monday:

Two 18-year-old Tempe men were arrested near the 1800 block of East Hayden Lane on charges of driving a vehicle while knowingly displaying false license plates and on charges of minor in possession of alcohol, respectively. An officer reportedly found a can of beer under the latter suspect's seat, and the vehicle's other occupants said he had consumed six to seven beers that evening.

A 31-year-old Guadalupe male was arrested near the 600 block of West Fifth Street on charges of false reporting and a prior warrant for failing to appear on a previous charge of driving on a suspended license. The suspect reportedly gave false information to officers.

A 23-year-old transient man was arrested near the 1900 block of East Apache Boulevard on charges of criminal damages after he reportedly caused $6,000 worth of damage by "destroying everything" in a nearby apartment.

A 43-year-old Tempe female was arrested near the 800 block of South River Road on a warrant for failing to appear on a previous charge of driving on a suspended license.

A 36-year-old Tempe male was arrested on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia after officers reportedly observed the suspect removing a glass crack pipe from his right sleeve. The suspect also reportedly was arrested for a prior warrant for the same charge.

A 23-year-old Chandler male was arrested near the 1800 block of West Elliott Road on charges of criminal trespassing after being found in a car.
