Months of preparation have come to a close, and the season that the ASU cross country team has been preparing for finally has arrived.
After three meets, both the men's and women's teams come into the Pac-10 championship meet in Pullman, Wash., on Saturday ranked in the top 15, with the men at No. 15 in the nation and the women at No. 4.
Despite heading north to the cold climate, head coach Walt Drenth thinks the weather won't be a factor, even though the wind chill temperature is expected to be 28 degrees.
"I actually kind of look forward to the adverse conditions," Drenth said. "We do a good job of competing under any circumstance. We have our own adversities here with heat. You learn you don't have control over the environment. All you have control over is what you do and how you respond to it."
So far, the women have been led by sophomore Amy Hastings, who has been the top finisher in every meet this season. The men have been paced by junior Juan Reyes and sophomore Aaron Aguayo, who have split the three top finishes for the Sun Devils this season.
