I have never walked out of a movie.
Before Thursday, anyway.
I typically like scary movies. I saw The Ring and I liked it. Psycho didn't scare me and I've read more horror books than I can count. But nothing I saw or read could have prepared me for director Rob Schmidt's Wrong Turn.
I'm sure you've seen the previews, and maybe you thought about seeing it this weekend but opted for the heartfelt Finding Nemo, instead.
All I can say is if you have any health problems, faint at the sight of blood or ever want to hike through the woods again - DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE.
On the other hand, if you aren't like me and get completely wrapped up in movies to the point where your hands are cramping from gripping the chair or the person next to you, you might want to drop the $7 on this horrifying movie. But after about an hour of gore, my hands were so sore and my heart was racing so fast I had to leave.
Like I said, I've never walked out of a movie before.
So what is this movie like? Well, it has all the characteristics of your basic horror movie - a sort of Texas Chainsaw Massacre plot line with a family of inbred monsters living in the middle of the woods, hunting people for fun.
It has the same cast of any movie with big-breasted, beautiful girls (played by Eliza Dushku ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") Emmanuelle Chriqui (AI) and Lindy Booth (American Psycho 2)), the strong, smart leader-guy (Desmond Harrington, Ghost Ship) and the good-looking comedy relief (Jeremy Sisto, White Squall). Everyone seems pretty wealthy and somewhere in their 20s.
As you may expect, more than half the cast dies - and you get to see every detail. Let's just say barbed wire, hatchets and arrows are involved.
Part of me wishes I would have stayed for the last half hour (just to make sure someone lived) but like I said - I couldn't do it.
But if you think you can hang in there, let me know how it ends.
