The Simpsons, Sunday: "Dude, Where's My Ranch?"
What Happened: Homer decides to write a new Christmas carol to sing around town. When Talking Head singer David Byrne offers to produce the song, it becomes a huge hit. The Simpson family gets so annoyed by the song, they decide to take a vacation to a dude ranch. Once there, Homer and Bart try to break down a beaver dam so the Indians who live in the area can build a casino. Lisa gets her first crush on a young cowboy named Luke, voiced by Jonathan Taylor Thomas. However, Lisa inadvertently leads Luke's sister to a dangerous path to the dude ranch, as she believes Luke's sister is really his girlfriend. Bart and Lisa save Luke's sister, but Luke is totally disgusted by Lisa's actions. Marge tells Lisa that this experience is just part of love, and the Simpsons go back home.
My Thoughts: This episode of "The Simpsons" was certainly not one of the best of this season. However, it was funny, especially when Maggie dances to Britney Spears' song, "Oops, I Did It Again." Also notable was the guest appearance by Byrne, who lampooned himself rather nicely. Still, this was not an especially funny episode, by any means. The plot wasn't that original, and the jokes about Ned Flanders were a bit too mean-spirited. There were laughs to spare, but nothing so gut-busting that would last in my mind for awhile.
