One of ASU´s largest Greek houses, Sigma Nu has been suspended for two years.

Sigma Nu has been suspended for two years by ASU after getting caught hazing members by a university official.

The fraternity, whose house is located at 601 Alpha Drive, was found to have violated seven sections of the student code of conduct after a four-month investigation by the Office of Student Life for Judicial Affairs.

On Nov. 28, a university official witnessed 35 men wearing only their underwear surrounding the fraternity's swimming pool just after 2 a.m. Fifteen to 20 other fraternity members were present, but were clothed. Three men were holding paddles, the witness said.

Assistant dean of student life for judicial affairs, Deborah Sullivan, said the suspension is reflective of the university's policies against hazing.

"ASU maintains a zero tolerance policy when it comes to hazing violations," she said in statement. "This type of behavior will not be tolerated. As a result of the findings, the university has imposed appropriate sanctions."

Under the suspension, which is effective immediately, the fraternity cannot operate on ASU's campus or participate in any campus activities.

Sigma Nu's suspension will end May 31, 2004.
