The Arizona Board of Regents is expected to vote today on a process that would allow all three Arizona universities the ability to set a variable fee range for selected graduate professional programs.
If the board approves the process, it will allow ASU, UA and NAU to present a three-year program fee for certain graduate professional programs at the annual tuition meeting in April.
Rather than continuing with one set program fee that ASU is currently using, the request would allow ABOR to set a lower and higher limit within which universities could vary program fees.
If approved, the new fee setting process would apply to new students entering in the following academic year.
ASU Provost Milton Glick said the MBA and graduate law programs could be affected, but the MBA has been the only program to step forward with interest in the new fee change.
Graduate College Dean Bianca Bernstein said the three-year program would allow prospective students the ability to plan for and compare costs with other university graduate programs. It would also allow the universities to be better prepared for the fluctuations in economic conditions.
