Every year ASU hosts 'German Day', a celebration of the language and culture of the German-speaking people on Hayden Lawn.
The event is hosted by the German language classes. The classes divided into groups and choose topics to present at their booths. Since the students were only required to stay for their booth, the information constantly rotated.
Along with German pop and rap music playing on the speakers, puppet shows and poetry readings were also presented. One student even performed a German song with his guitar.
"We want to educate people beyond simply the German language and spread knowledge of the culture as well," said program coordinator, Shana Bell. Bell is also a German instructor at ASU.
Students made displays highliting everything from traditional dress such as the dirndl and lederhosen to German car companies, Volkswagon, Mercedes-Benz and BMW to German beer.
The European Bistro, a central Phoenix restaurant, was on hand to sell bratwurst and sauerkraut sandwiches, cheesecake and, the 'all-American' apple pie.
Taste the Fun sold bags Bavarian nuts, which are almonds and pecans glazed in cinnamon, to passerbys.
Ty Tirone, owner of Taste the Fun, was asked to help out at the last minute after the other company had to cancel.
"We'll be back next year with a trailer and will make sausage and bratwurst," said Marchello Greco, a friend and helper of Tirone's.
