ASU vs Wazzu: By the numbers

What numbers stood out in ASU's home loss to Washington State

20- Number of times ASU lined up in the Sparky formation. Relying on their freshman, fourth-string quarterback Dillon Sterling-Cole, Chip Lindsey and the Sun Devils got creative, lining up with a running back behind center for a lot of the second half. While lined up in the Sparky, ASU gained 134 of its 280 total yards.

70- Length, in yards, of redshirt senior Tim White's punt return touchdown. The score was White's first in any capacity this season and the second special teams touchdown of his career.

7- Sacks for ASU's defense, a season high. The Sun Devils went after redshirt junior quarterback Luke Falk all night, pressuring the tall quarterback and limiting big plays. Leading the way for ASU were junior linebackers Koron Crump and DJ Calhoun, who had three and two sacks, respectively.

79.2- Completion percentage of Washington State redshirt junior quarterback Luke Falk. When he wasn't being hit, Falk was seemingly unstoppable Saturday, finding receivers all over the yard for first downs. Despite just two plays of over 20 yards, Falk was able to lead the Cougars straight through the Sun Devil defense quickly and efficiently.

3.2- Yards per carry for ASU. With its starting quarterback out for all but two drives, the Sun Devils attempted to rely on its running game, but the YPC number doesn't tell the whole story. Aside from junior running back Kalen Ballage's 52-yard second quarter touchdown, the Sun Devils managed a paltry 1.8 yards per rush, helping Sterling-Cole not at all.
