Two of ASU's distance runners went to Stanford this weekend for the Stanford Invitational, in which they competed against runners from universities including Oregon, Oklahoma and Kansas.
Though the rest of the team took this weekend off, redshirt junior Adriana Olivias and redshirt sophomore Jenna Maack ran the 10000-meter race in two different heats. They both had a tough time competing.
Neither girl was able to earn a regional qualifying time. Olivias, who competed in the first heat consisting of 28 runners, did poorly against the competition. She finished dead last in the group with a time of 34:33.33.
Maack wasn't able to do better in the second heat. She finished in 31st out of 37 runners, running 34:58.93. Though Maack has been resting her body for the later meets, the rest didn't help her out this time.
Both girls had a tough break at the meet but will have a chance to redeem themselves at the Sun Angel Classic, which begins on Thursday, April 7. Though they won't be running the 10000-meter race there, they will have a chance to earn a spot in the Pac-12 conference championship meet. They will also try to help their team get a win at home for the first time this season.
