ASU swim and dive sophomore Mara Aiacoboae and freshman Marlies Ross competed in the NCAA Divison I Swim and Dive Championships in Atlanta Georgia. The school was going up against a lot of top schools around the country like Georgia, Stanford, USC and others.
The two sun devils had Wednesday off, as the only event was the 800-meter free relay. On Thursday, the team had a tough outing; Ross took 53rd place in the 200-meter IM prelims, swimming a time of 2:01:13.
The tough breaks kept hitting the Sun Devils as Aiacoboae competed in the one-meter diving prelims and she took 32nd place in the event, scoring 265.55. Both of their nights were over as neither of them were able to break into the finals in their respective competition.
On Friday, one of Sun Devils had another chance to compete as Ross competed in the 400-meter IM prelims. She would have another tough day though as Ross took 34th place in the event, swimming 4:13:38. This would signal the end of her day as well.
On the final day of competition on March 19, both of the Sun Devils had events to compete in with Ross going in the 200-meter breast stroke race and Aiacoboae competing in the platform dive. Ross took 41st place in the event with a time of 2:12:65 and just like that, her season was over. Aiacoboae was able to finally break out in the event, taking fourth in the prelims with a score of 286.60 and in the finals, Aiacoboae took third place with a score of 289.10.
That performance by Aiacoboae led ASU to reach 31st place overall in the championship.
